The German Embassy Colombo together with DAAD Sri Lanka hosted a DAAD Alumni Networking Event on March 19, 2019 at the German embassy premises, which was spearheaded by Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy Mr Andreas Berg and the Head of the Culture Section Ms Claudia Tietze. The event was organised with the aim to strengthen and reconnect the alumni of the German Academic Exchange Service and to create the basis for a bi-lateral alumni network.
After the welcome address given by Mr Berg, Mr Nadeesha Palliyaguru, Information and Office Manager of the DAAD Information Centre of Sri Lanka, delivered a comprehensive presentation about the work of the German Academic Exchange Service. The alumni event, which was an informative and enjoyable evening, saw the attendance of many DAAD alumni from various fields of studies and industries, marking it as a successful and momentous occasion which the German Embassy hopes to recreate in the future.
Main objectives of this event were to update the DAAD alumni of Sri Lanka in current education system of Germany and its developments, various education and research opportunities available for DAAD alumni, to discuss future collaboration of them with DAAD Sri Lanka, German embassy and other German organizations in Sri Lanka and also to strengthen the activities of DAAD alumni association of Sri Lanka. Representatives from Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka, GIZ Sri Lanka (German Development Cooperation) and Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka – AHK Sri Lanka were also present at this event.
