University Summer Courses (HSK)
The HSK (Hochschulsommerkurse) program by DAAD offers summer courses for international students to enhance their German language skills and cultural knowledge. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students belonging to any subject field registered at one of the higher education institutions in India, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka and possessing at least B1 level of German language proficiency. The funding is provided for the duration of the course which should at least be 18 teaching days.
IAESTE- processed at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MAHE)
This programme facilitates the exchange of international interns with Germany. The students pursuing graduation, post-graduation and PhD in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, agriculture and forestry (IAESTE) can apply for the scholarship to receive funding for a duration of 2 to 12 months.
For/During Master Studies

Combined Study and Practice Stays for Engineers from Developing Countries (KOSPIE) with Indian IITs
This scholarship allows students from Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) to pursue project work as a part of their master’s thesis at a TU9 university in Germany. Scholarship holders are provided funding to conduct their dissertation at one of the TU9 universities which includes RWTH Aachen University, TU Berlin, TU Dresden, TU Braunschweig, Leibniz University Hannover, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, TU Munich, University of Stuttgart and TU Darmstadt. The scholarship finances a stay for a maximum of 7 months.
Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS)
This scholarship enables graduates from developing countries with a professional experience of 2 years to pursue a master’s or PhD at a German university in preselected courses. The funding lasts from 12 to 40 months contingent on the duration of the study programme.
Helmut Schmidt Programme – Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG)
This programme provides scholarship to international students to pursue a master’s degrees in the fields crucial for socio-political and economic development. The program focuses on political science, law, economics, and administration. The funding lasts from 12 to 42 months contingent on the duration of the study programme.
Study Scholarships – Postgraduate studies in the field of Architecture
The scholarship enables graduates from developing countries to pursue postgraduate or complementary studies in Architecture in Germany. It provides a monthly stipend, travel allowance, and insurance. Applicants must have a first degree in architecture and are selected on the basis of their artistic achievements and project quality. The funding lasts from 12 to 42 months contingent on the duration of the study programme.
Study Scholarships - Fine Arts, Design, Visual Communication and Film
The scholarship funds postgraduate or complementary studies in Fine Arts, Design, Visual Communication in Germany. It provides a monthly stipend, travel allowance, and insurance. Applicants must have a first degree in the arts and are selected based on artistic achievements and quality of the proposed project. The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of 2 years.
Study Scholarships - Postgraduate Studies in the Field of Music
The scholarship funds postgraduate or complementary studies in Music in Germany. It provides a monthly stipend, travel allowance, and insurance. Applicants must have a first degree in the field of music and are selected based on artistic achievements and project quality. The funding can be availed for a period ranging from 12 to 24 months contingent on the duration of the study programme.
Study Scholarships - Postgraduate Studies in the Field of the Performing Arts
The scholarship aids students belonging to the field of performing arts to pursue postgraduate or complementary studies in Germany. It provides a monthly stipend, travel allowance, and insurance. Applicants must possess a first degree in field of performing arts and are selected based on artistic achievements and project quality. The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of 2 years.
DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship Programme
The DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships are a joint initiative by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). DLR, Germany’s national research centre offers the opportunity to students pursuing postgraduation in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, and digitalization to take part in the implementation of German space program at one of the DLR institutes in Germany. The funding is provided for a maximum of 9 months.

Doctoral Programmes in Germany
This scholarship programme offers postgraduates the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in Germany. The programme provides funding for either realising an individual project supervised by a university teacher (doctoral supervisor) or participation in a structured doctoral study programme. Funding is provided for a maximum of four years.
Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees / Cotutelle
Funding is provided for doctoral candidates at institutions in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka whose doctoral degrees are supervised both by a university teacher at the home university and an academic adviser at the host institute in Germany. The scholarship is awarded for a maximum duration of 2 years.
Research Grants in Germany
The research grant offers the opportunity to doctoral candidates/ postdocs to realise a research project in Germany. The programme supports research stays during a doctorate or in the early postdoc phase. Funding is provided for a period ranging from 2 to 12 months. The applicant must be enrolled in a PhD programme or postdoctoral studies in the home country.
DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship Programme
The DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships are a joint initiative by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). DLR, Germany’s national research centre offers an opportunity to the postgraduates in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, and digitalization to pursue a full PhD at one of the DLR institutes in Germany. The funding is provided for a period of up to 36 months.

The Study Visits for Academics – Artists and Architects
This programme allows university teachers in architecture, fine arts, design, performing arts, and music to work with host institutions in Germany for one to three months.
Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders
This scholarship is awarded to former long term scholarship holders who have previously availed a funding for a period of 12 months or more and wish to continue their research work or projects and maintain their academic contacts in Germany. The scholarship can be availed for a period of 1 to 3 months.
Bilateral Exchange of Academics to Germany
This programme promotes exchange of scientists and academics between Indian partner institutions and Germany to improve international relations and bilateral research cooperations. It is a co-funded programme which is open to post-docs and researchers at an IITs and CSIRs and provides the opportunity of research stays in Germany for up to 3 months with a mandatory reciprocal visit from the German side.
DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship Programme
The DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships are a collaborative program between the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Designed for post-doctoral researchers and senior scientists in fields such as aeronautics, space, energy, transport, and digitalization, the fellowship offers the chance to participate in cutting-edge research and contribute to Germany’s space program at DLR institutes. Funding supports post-docs for 6 to 24 months and senior scientists for 1 to 3 months.
Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME)
This funding programme supports international mobility in the postdoctoral phase of early career researchers of all nationalities and disciplines who seek to gain professional experience in Germany through temporary positions at German universities instead of traditional scholarships. They are given an opportunity to combine a fixed-term position at a German university with a research stay abroad. The funding comprises of a 12-month phase abroad and a 6-month integration phase at a German university, where the recipients are employed as postdoctoral researchers for the entire duration of the funding.
