DAAD South Asia Alumni Days 2021

An online event series for the entire DAAD Alumni Network in South Asia, 8 – 19 November. The DAAD Regional Office New Delhi successfully concluded the multi-day event-series DAAD South Asia Alumni Days from the 8th to the 19th of November. The event was packed with a diverse range of activities offered especially to the vast network of alumni in the region.

Connecting South Asia and Germany in science and research, the Alumni Days sought to bring together and strengthen the regional networks of alumni from the region – India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Celebrating this valued network of ambassadors, several individual events took place that highlighted diverse aspects of DAAD alumni activity.

Role of Alumni in Science Diplomacy

Science, technology, and international affairs came together in a panel discussion that addressed the increasingly important connect to build sustainable partnerships through Science Diplomacy and the role of alumni in the same. Thomas Prinz, Ambassador of Germany to Nepal, Dr. Steffen Koch, Head of Economic Affairs, German Embassy New Delhi, Dr. Manjula Mundakana, Science Advisor at the German Consulate Bangalore, and Muzaddid Haider, DAAD Young Ambassador joined in for this interesting discussion.

Exchange and Experience Sharing

DAAD-Scholarship holders participated in an exchange and experience-sharing session conducted by alumni Megha Sud and Dr. Ranjan Kumar Ghosh. They connected with a larger network of alumni, shared experiences around academic and scientific careers in research and learned about DAAD offers available to them as alumni.

Alumni for SDG Web Talk

Alumni for SDG web talk series concluded with the third and final panel of the year with a focus on SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities. In a way to give back to society, the talks revolved around the research of the alumni network in the field of this SDG, highlighting Cities and Power Grids.

Workshop Science Communication

The highlight of the Alumni Days was the workshop series on Science Communication, one of the most important subjects in a world reeling with several global crises. Science communication facilitates science through storytelling, along with data, facts and experiences as powerful tools to make complex scientific facts understandable. The regional alumni groups that participated in the workshop gained practical knowledge in effectively communicating their work to a larger audience.

The Alumni Days brought the network closer together, helped with information- and experience-sharing and helped develop useful skills by using this as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange for the benefit of science and research.
