2001

  • Hi! Potentials – International Careers Made in Germany – the DAAD started conducting an international campaign for the promotion of Germany as a study location on behalf of and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The first German higher education fair under this campaign was held in 2001.

  • DAAD Information Centres started in Chennai (at the Goethe-Institut) and Mumbai (at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce). They were headed by DAAD Lektoren at IIT Madras and University of Mumbai

  • DAAD shifted to 72, Lodi Estate, the French cultural centre; celebrating Franco-German friendship

  • One of the early events under the Hi potentials! campaign to promote Germany as a research destination. The Sci-Tech Forum 2004 was a collaborative DAAD-DFG project

  • Europe was presented as a promising destination for higher education for the first time. DAAD organised the EHEF 2006 together with British Council, NUFFIC and “EduFrance”

  • Language Assistants (Sprachassistenz) programme took off. Fresh graduates or postgraduates from Germany with specialisation in German Studies taught German language at select Indian institutions. 25 Language Assistants have been in India till date
  • DAAD Honorary Advisors programme (Vertrauensdozeneten) started. Germany alumni got together to mentor and inspire students and faculty to consider Germany as a partner for their further education and research

  • DAAD-UGC MoU was signed for PPP (Project-based Personnel Partnerships) in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • DAAD Information Point in Dhaka started to operate out of Goethe-Institut Bangladesh

  • DAAD-UGC MoU was signed for short term research stays (WAP) for Indian and German scientists in the field of Humanities & Social Sciences

  • Christiane Schlottmann joined as Director (2008-2014)

  • A New Passage to India (ANPtI) strengthened the Indo-German academic collaboration further and was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It included four core components:
    •  Indo-German Partnerships in Higher Education (IGP)
    •  German-Indian Higher Education Cooperations (DIHSK)
    •  Working Internships in Science and Engineering (WISE)
    •  Indo-German Centre for Sustainability (IGCS) at IIT Madras
  • Dr. Angela Merkel was awarded the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding (ICCR – Indian Council of Cultural Relations). On that occasion, the Dr Angela Merkel Scholarship in Law was instituted for master level studies in the field of law
  • DAAD Information Centre Pune was established
